Edgar Clinton Gardner
Edgar Clinton “EC” Gardner, 89, of Laurel passed away Jan. 31, 2024 at his home. He was born June 7, 1934, in Laurel.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he served on the USS Valley Forge and earned a combat designation in the Japan theater of operation. After discharge from the Navy, he served with the U.S. Post Office in Laurel for 36 years before retiring.
Visitation and funeral will be at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and the service will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Laurel. Brother Eric Estes, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, will officiate. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Gladys Elaine Barnett Gardner; and son Mark Allen Gardner.
Survivors include his two remaining sons, Jimmy R. Gardner and Wesley C. Gardner; grandchildren Jason A. Gardner, Adam Gardner, Kenadie Gardner, Makynah Parker, Nathan Ishee and Sarah Ishee; and great-grandchildren Kinleigh Tucker, Madyson Gardner, Kylie Gardner, Daisie Gardner and Cash Ishee.
Pallbearers will be Jason Gardner, Adam Gardner, Robin Torske, Richard Odom, Scottie Stricklin and Michael Barnett. Honorary pallbearer will be Danny Lowery.
